Privacy Policy
Effective October 18, 2026
The Celtic Coo (CelticCoo.ca) is a small, independent guide to Highland Games, pipe bands, Highland dance and Celtic events across Canada, run from Alberta, Canada. This page explains in plain language what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
The short version: you can use CelticCoo.ca without giving us any personal information. We don't set our own cookies, we don't use advertising trackers, and we never sell your personal information.
Who we are
"The Celtic Coo", "we" and "us" mean the operator of this website, based in Alberta, Canada.
When you visit the site
- Analytics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across websites. We only see totals, like which pages are popular, which sites sent visitors, and browser, device and country counts. It can't tell us who you are.
- Hosting. The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and basic request details to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. If it needs to check that you're not a bot, Cloudflare may set a short-lived security cookie. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Your tartan banner. If you pick a tartan for the page banner on Find your tartan, your choice is saved only in your own browser (local storage). It's never sent to us. Use the reset button on that page, or clear your browser's site data, to remove it.
- Calendar and RSS feeds. Subscribing to our calendar or RSS feed doesn't ask for any personal information.
- No accounts. There are no logins, comments or user profiles.
The Coo's Letter (newsletter)
Our weekly email will run on Kit (formerly ConvertKit). When sign-up opens, the form will ask for your email address and nothing else. Kit stores your address, when you signed up, and standard email statistics such as opens and clicks. We'll use your address only to send The Coo's Letter.
- We only email you if you've signed up yourself, as Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires.
- Every email says who it's from and has an unsubscribe link.
- You can unsubscribe at any time with one click, and we'll stop emailing you right away.
When you send us an event, shop or correction
Our Add yours page lets you send us an event, a shop listing or a correction by email. We use what you send to check and publish the listing. We publish the event or business details, such as the name, dates, location and website. We don't publish your personal name or email address unless you ask us to. We keep your email so we can follow up about the listing. If we add an online submission form later, the same rules will apply.
Affiliate links and retailer cookies
The Celtic Coo doesn't have any affiliate links right now. Links to shops, organizers and associations are ordinary links. If we add affiliate partners in the future, those links will be clearly labelled, and we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
When you click an affiliate link, the retailer or its affiliate network may set cookies on its own site so it knows you came from us. We don't set those cookies, and the retailer's own privacy policy covers them. We'd only get summary reports, such as how many clicks and sales a link produced. We'd never see your name, address or payment details. You can block or clear these cookies in your browser settings.
We don't sell your information
We never sell, rent or trade personal information. We only share it with the services that run the site (Cloudflare for hosting and analytics, Kit for the newsletter), or when the law requires it.
Where it's stored and for how long
Cloudflare and Kit are based in the United States, so your information may be stored or processed outside Canada and may be subject to the laws there. We keep your newsletter address until you unsubscribe, and emails only as long as we need them for your listing or question.
Your rights
Canada's privacy law for businesses, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), applies to The Celtic Coo, along with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) where it applies. You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
