Find your family tartan
Type your surname or clan to see its tartans on the official Scottish Register of Tartans ↗, and whether there's a clan society in Canada you can join.
Make it yours: banner tartan
Pick a tartan for the stripe across the top of every page. It's saved only in this browser, with no account and nothing sent to us.
Why only one for now? We only draw tartans we're sure are free to depict. Clan tartans are traditional, but some are restricted by a chief, and some modern ones are registered designs or trademarks. The Register's own images are Crown copyright. We're checking clan tartans one by one, and until then we link you to the official Register.
Do I need a clan to wear tartan?
No. Anyone can wear a district or national tartan, like Canada's Maple Leaf or your province's tartan. Clan tartans are traditionally worn by people with that surname or a family link, but most clan societies are happy to see anyone wear theirs respectfully. A few tartans are restricted, such as royal or personal ones, so check the Register's notes. See what to wear for more.
